The first year has gone by quickly and Nicole is having heaps of fun with her new found independence.
Nicole loves to play games. The more memorable ones include:
| Cruising Game: As it gets close to sleep time, Nicole loves to cruise around the sofa and come back to Mum for a quick hug and off we go again around the sofa and back again. As she gets more and more tired, she'll only take a few steps away before coming back for a quick hug. The game finishes when all that happens is Nicole is being picked up and put down again. Then it's bedtime. | |
| Play time: Nicole enjoys walking around using the stride-to-ride walker. Initially, she thought it was a good game to push it around whilst walking on her knees until she figured out that she could push it around walking and it was so much easier. She always has a big grin on her face and is very proud of herself when she is pushing the toy around. Nicole has already figured how how to turn the toy around when she gets close to the wall, although not always with success. | |
| Music: Nicole really enjoys her music and when she hears a song she likes she'll wave both her arms in the air. Just recently, she has even started 'bopping' (dancing) away to music (she'll hold onto something for support and she'll bend her legs in beat to the tune). | |
| Friends: It hasn't taken long, Nicole has already managed to charm one of the younger boys at daycare or is it the other way round? Apparently, young Thomas is already showing signs of being a gentleman and one time took one of Nicole's hands and sneaked in a quick kiss. |
More about Nicole...
| Animals: Nicole enjoys watching fish swim in fish-tank and looking at dogs going for walks, however, her favourite is definitely the birds. She might be busy playing with a toy, but, if she happens to hear a bird, she'll immediately stop playing to try to and find it. | |
| Words: Nicole is making a lot of different sounds although the only words we can really understand is 'Mama' and 'Dada'. She also points at things she would like to a have a close look at and says 'Dis' (which we've interpreted as 'this'). Nicole already knows quite a few words including 'light', 'bath-time', 'nappy-time', 'toast', 'milk' and 'hug'. When you ask for a hug she'll wrap both arms around your neck and lean her head onto your shoulders - it's so adorable! Speaking of which, a hug right about now would be nice. | |
| Food: Nicole enjoys her food. She tastes every mouthful and if the texture is different to what she expects she'll take it out of her mouth to investigate further. Her favourite foods at the moment include: grapes, peas, cheese, pasta, weetbix and sausages. She also gets very excited when she can see that vanilla flavoured yoghurt or ice-cream is about to be served. In fact, Nicole refuses to eat her mains if she sees that dessert is on hand! | |
| Books: Nicoles loves looking at books and is very good at turning the pages herself. At the moment she really enjoys the 'Touch and Feel' books as well as the book "Baby Einstein Dogs". | |
| Teeth: Nicole now has a total of six teeth which arrived with minimal fuss and was accompanied by a lot of dribbling. However, shortly before her first birthday, her top right molar started to poke through and for the following week Nicole didn't have much fun until her tooth came through properly. |
Proud Parents ...
| First Steps: Nicole has been cruising the furniture for some time and around the age of 11 and half months took her first steps. Since then, she has become more and more confident with her walking. It's very cute to see her walking around with her arms in the air and a big smile on her face. | |
| Stairs: Nicole is very proud of ability to walk and is already looking for new challenges. She is very keen to walk up and down the stairs and has not been deterred by a few spills. Luckily for Mum there are very few stairs at home. |
Special Events ...
| Christmas: For Christmas, she recieved plenty of clothes, a ball, and a toy cat that 'meows' and a Fisher Price Swirlin Saucer. | |
| Easter: Nicole was fascinated by the colourful easter egg wrapping and very eager to try and taste the chocolate. However, Mum and Dad felt she was just a little too young for eating chocolates. | |
| First Birthday: We celebrated Nicole's first birthday at home. She received a number of Fisher Price Little People toys as well as books and a soft sorting toy. |
Nicole loves the pool, slide and swing and there's also plenty of fun to had with the ball - Nicole is very good at grabbing a rolling ball that comes her way and rolling it back again.
